American Rose Society

The Southwest Oregon Rose Society is affiliated with the American Rose Society.  It was established in 1976 to educate southern Oregon coastal residents how to grow roses in a cool, coastal climate.

Monthly meetings are usually the first Thursday of the month, September through June.  The exception in January 2026 will be to hold the meeting on the second Thursday of the month, January 8th because of the New Year holiday.   Members meet at a designated restaurant at 4:30pm before the meeting if they choose.

A Rose Growing Made Easy class is held after the formal business meeting with a current topic for the season.  The class is normally conducted by Corinne Clifton, Master Rosarian.  View her  rose growing tips on the Seasonal Rose Growing page.

The rose club has a fund raising plant sale in May and September.  Members usually bring plants from their gardens or greenhouse or items pertinent to the sale such as excess pots.

A rose exhibition is usually presented at Shore Acres on Fathers Day.  In 2026 this will be suspended due to the Judged Rose Show held the same weekend.

A highlight of the year is the Judged Rose Show in June.   The theme this year will be GOLDEN CELEBRATIONS-50 Years of SWORS.  The event is held at the Oaks Pavilion on the Coos County Fairgrounds June 20, 2026.

August brings our annual potluck and garden tour.
